Midfielder could return to action on 3 January against Espanyol

Barcelona will be without Dani Olmo for at least a month after tests confirmed the midfielder dislocated his shoulder during Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

Olmo was injured in the 65th minute at the Camp Nou when he scored the goal that put Barcelona ahead. The attacking midfielder fell awkwardly after receiving the ball and clinically dispatching it past Jan Oblak.

He was on the ground for his goal celebration and was then substituted immediately.

Barcelona’s assessment on Wednesday confirmed he would miss the final four matches of 2025, against Real Betis, Eintracht Frankfurt, Osasuna and Villarreal.

La Liga would then pause for its winter break, with Barcelona returning to action on 3 January against Espanyol, when Olmo could return.

Barcelona have struggled with extensive injuries to key players this season, although that cloud now appears to be lifting. Raphinha, Pedri and Joan Garcia have all returned to the pitch and started against Atletico.

However, Fermin Lopez is still sidelined with a calf injury. Gavi is a long-term absentee, while Ronald Araujo was given a break to focus on his mental health.
