Barcelona are in talks with Hansi Flick’s agent to extend his contract as the team continue to enjoy a positive campaign under the German.
Barcelona officials have held discussions with Pini Zahavi, who represents manager Hansi Flick, about a contract extension for the first-team boss. The new contract will see him stay with the Catalan club well beyond the current end date of June 2026.
Flick, who signed for Barcelona last summer, has been in charge for 48 games so far, winning 36, drawing six and losing six, with a point-per-match average of 2.38. Barcelona are also unbeaten so far in 2025, last losing 2-1 against Atletico Madrid in December 2024.
This rich run of form has ensured that Barcelona sit four points clear at the top of the La Liga table. They have a commanding lead over Borussia Dortmund heading into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie. Barcelona are among the favourites to win the trophy, in a season that could eventually see them win the treble.
Flick’s reward is an extended show of trust from the club hierarchy. A delegation including Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco met with Zahavi on Tuesday. The conclusions of the meeting are not yet known.
When asked about the matter, Flick was reticent.
“I’m not a coach who thinks about the next three years,” he said. “What I like is working for the best club in the world, and I really appreciate what we have here. The situation at the club isn’t easy, but we’re all doing our best.
“I have one year left, and if things go well, another. That’s my way of thinking. Step by step, year by year. I don’t think we’re finished yet; in the end, I don’t know how much time we’ll have left, but I want to finish my work here on a good note.”
