Sponsorship deal with African country reportedly worth €44m
Barcelona have confirmed a new four-year partnership with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Under the deal, Barcelona’s teams will wear the slogan “R.D. Congo – Coeur d’Afrique” (which means “Heart of Africa”) on the back of their training kits until 2029.
The partnership will also see the Spotify Camp Nou host the “House of the DRC”, a dedicated space where Congolese cultural and sporting heritage will be promoted.
Barcelona said in a statement: “This agreement signifies a shared commitment to fostering multi-sport development within the DRC.
“And as part of it this collaboration the club will contribute to enriching the training of the country’s young athletes by transferring its ecosystem of values, an indisputable pillar of the Barça model and style.”
Barcelona did not disclose the financial details of the deal, but sources close to the club have said it is worth €44m, according to the Athletic.
The deal comes on the heels of similar arrangements between DR Congo and AC Milan and AS Monaco.
The country has been positioning itself as a strategic partner for global clubs, reportedly to rebrand its international image and promote tourism.
