Decision means Flick must serve a one-match ban and will be absent from the technical area during Sunday’s clásico
Barcelona will have to face Real Madrid in Sunday’s clásico without Hansi Flick on the touchline after Spain’s Administrative Court for Sport (TAD) rejected the club’s second and final appeal against his suspension.
Flick was suspended after getting dismissed late in last week’s 2-1 win over Girona. He was shown two yellow cards in quick succession by referee Gil Manzano for protesting officiating decisions.
The first came for sarcastically applauding the amount of added time, the second for his animated protest shortly after.
Barcelona immediately lodged an appeal, arguing the punishment was excessive, but both the RFEF’s Disciplinary and Appeals Committees upheld the original ruling.
The club then escalated the appeal to the TAD. Their rejection means there is no longer any other possibility of an appeal.
The decision means Flick must serve a one-match ban and will be absent from the technical area at the Santiago Bernabeu. Assistant coach Marcus Sorg will assume control of the team from the bench, while Flick will watch on from the stands.
Barcelona confirmed Sorg will also speak to the media in Saturday’s pre-match press conference at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper before the squad travels to Madrid.
