Striker’s current wages place him among the highest earners at the club and Barcelona can no longer afford to pay
Barcelona are considering offering Robert Lewandowski a one-year contract extension as his current deal enters its final months.
The striker’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and the club are open to keeping him beyond 2026 to maintain some stability in the centre-forward position. However, any renewal will depend on the 37-year-old accepting a significant reduction in his salary.
Despite taking on a slightly reduced role this season, Lewandowski continues to be important to the Barcelona squad. He has produced 16 goals and three assists in 37 appearances this season.
Since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022, he has scored 117 goals and provided 23 assists in 184 matches, making him one of Barcelona’s most productive signings in recent years. However, his current wages place him among the highest earners at the club and Barcelona can no longer afford to pay that for his current level of contributions.
Transfer interest is also building for the player. Reports are that clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer monitoring his situation. Lewandowski will have to decide whether to agree an extension on Barcelona’s new terms or leave when his contract expires.
