Club view Rashford as a realistic option given the financial constraints that have already affected their summer dealings
Barcelona are preparing to open formal talks with Manchester United over the signing of Marcus Rashford, as the La Liga champions step up their search for a new wide forward following Nico Williams’ decision to stay at Athletic Club.
The Catalan club have always had Rashford on a shortlist of left wingers to potentially move for this summer, and view him as a realistic option given the financial constraints that have already affected their summer dealings.
The England international is also keen on a fresh start at Catalonia. He recently confirmed his desire to play with the club’s prodigy Lamine Yamal, saying in an interview: “Everyone wants to play with the best.”
United are aware of Barcelona’s interest but have not yet received a formal bid. Rashford endured a poor 2024-25 season under both Erik ten Hag and his successor Ruben Amorim before joining Aston Villa on loan midseason.
Barcelona’s interest in Rashford is escalating after their move for Nico Williams collapsed. Earlier this week, the Spain international signed a new long-term deal with Athletic that included a €100 million release clause. Barcelona had rejected an agreement that would guarantee Williams a registration spot, a sticking point that ultimately led the winger to stay in Bilbao.
