The Catalan club have told Rashford’s camp that a move is possible, but only late in the window
Barcelona are open to signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford this summer, but only if key pieces fall into place for the Catalan club.
Rashford is among the forwards being considered by Barcelona’s sporting department. However, their transfer business is far from straightforward. The club are navigating tight financial fair play restrictions, which means that before Barcelona can make any move for Rashford, they need to offload players to free up their wage bill, and also conclude deals for higher priority transfer targets.
Central to the club’s current strategy is the expected arrival of Nico Williams from Athletic Club. The Spanish international is expected to complete a €58m switch to Barcelona in coming days and sources from Spain say his signing is the immediate priority and will significantly influence the club’s summer budget.
Barcelona can only make a move for Rashford after a deal for Williams is over the line and players like Pau Víctor are moved on.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after falling out of favour at United and has privately expressed a desire to play in La Liga. Barcelona have told the player’s camp that a move is possible, according to Sport, but only late in the window, likely in August, and most likely as a loan with an option to buy.
Rashford reportedly understands the situation and is willing to wait, even if it means turning down other opportunities in the meantime.
