Goalkeeper has boosted confidence at the back for Barcelona since his return from injury

Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia will be in the starting XI for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt, despite initial concerns over a knock he picked up in the 5-3 win at Real Betis.

The summer signing appeared to limp on the team bus after the match and later again while boarding the plane back to Barcelona. It raised fears that he had sustained another injury, having just returned to the pitch after two months on the sidelines.

But according to sources close to the club, Garcia is expected to play, barring any last-minute complications.

Garcia has boosted confidence at the back for Barcelona since his return from injury. The 24-year-old had been replaced by Wojciech Szczęsny after he went off in the match against Real Oviedo in September and had a surgery. The veteran was much less convincing between the sticks.

Barcelona’s first choice goalkeeper had a solid showing against Betis on Saturday. He had little chance of preventing the early opener by Antony, or the two late goals, one from a corner kick and the other from the penalty spot, but he was active throughout the entire game, acting as a sweeper behind his side’s high defensive line.
