FC Barcelona has confirmed the appointment of former Bayern Munich and Germany coach, Hansi Flick as head coach until 30th June, 2026, taking over from Xavi Hernandez.
Barcelona had already announced that it would be parting ways with Xavi at the end of the season, leaving the club searching for a replacement to the lead the team in their bid to reclaim the glory days.
Flick’s appointment would be a welcome development within the club considering his pedigree and his success with Bayern especially during their historic treble-winning season; a season where they Flick’s Bayern side handed Barcelona an 8-2 drubbing in the Uefa champions league.
Announcing the German’s arrival, Barca wrote on their website:
“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until 30 June 2026. The new coach has signed a contract at the Club’s offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; first vice president responsible for the sporting area, Rafa Yuste and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco.”
Flick had previously had coaching stints at Hoffenheim where he stayed for five seasons before moving to RB Salzburg to become part of the coaching staff where he worked under Giovanni Trapattoni and Lothar Matthäus.
He was then Assistant coach of Germany national team before moving to Bayern and then returning to the German national team to take over as coach.
