The club will assess short-term relocation options but a return to Montjuic appears the most viable solution
Barcelona could be set for another temporary move away from Camp Nou as work continues on the redevelopment of the club’s traditional home ground.
Despite only returning to the stadium in November, the final phase of construction is expected to force the team out again in 2027. The stadium’s capacity has already been partially restored to 62,000, but the full redevelopment aims to reach 105,000 seats.
The key issue lies in the next stage of the project. All three tiers of the stadium are scheduled for completion by April 2027, but the installation of the new roof will require the venue to be completely closed for several months. As a result, Barcelona are expected to play the opening weeks of the 2027-28 season away from Camp Nou.
Club president Joan Laporta is assessing short-term relocation options but a return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys at Montjuic appears to be the most viable solution. The Estadi Johan Cruyff has a limited capacity of around 18,000 which would significantly reduce matchday revenue to the detriment of the club’s finances.
Montjuic offers a much larger capacity and has been mainly used by the club as their temporary stadium since work on Camp Nou began in 2023.
