Juventus has received a defensive blow as the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) rejected their appeal to overturn Pierre Kalulu’s suspension, ruling him out of Saturday’s Serie A clash with Como.

The FIGC, led by president Gabriele Gravina, dismissed Juventus’ request to have Kalulu reinstated following the controversy surrounding the Derby d’Italia.

Kalulu was sent off in the 42nd minute of the match against Inter Milan for a second yellow card, which was deemed incorrect by refereeing chief Gianluca Rocchi.

Kalulu’s absence is significant, as he has been an ever-present player for Juventus this season, featuring in every competition, including the Champions League, Serie A, and Coppa Italia.

Since August, he has made 36 appearances under both Igor Tudor and Luciano Spalletti, contributing two goals and five assists.

Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti has expressed support for the club’s decision to appeal Kalulu’s suspension, stating that it’s the right thing to do given the clear injustices surrounding the incident.

The Turin club will look to their squad depth to cope without Kalulu, who will miss Saturday’s match against Como at the Allianz Stadium. However, history offers some encouragement, as Juventus won both games last season when Kalulu was absent due to suspension.

Kalulu is expected to return to the fold for Juventus’ trip to Roma on March 1, providing a boost to the team’s defensive lineup.

Juventus will be looking to bounce back from this setback and continue their push for a top-four finish in Serie A.
