Centre-back experienced a hip problem in 2019 and was subsequently plagued by injuries for over five years

Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has launched legal action against the club, accusing them of clinical negligence linked to medical advice he received during his time at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has filed a claim with the High Court, according to Telegraph Sport, alleging that United’s handling of his injuries contributed to the series of physical setbacks that stalled his career.

The case is connected to the treatment Tuanzebe received following a hip injury sustained in October 2019 during a warm-up ahead of a Premier League match against Liverpool. That setback was followed by a string of injuries that kept him sidelined for large portions of the next three seasons.

The centre-back spent over 15 years at United after joining the academy at the age of eight, but he made just 37 senior appearances for the club between 2017 and 2023.

Following loan spells at Aston Villa, Napoli and Stoke City, Tuanzebe was released in 2023. He later signed with Ipswich Town, where he enjoyed his most consistent season to date, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League. He made over 40 appearances in 2024-25 but left as a free agent at the end of the season, after Ipswich’s relegation.

The defender is currently a Burnley player after joining them last month following their return to the top flight.
