Moving on from their misery in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they face Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid and Tottenham kick off the first batch of the round of 16 fixtures in the UEFA Champions League.

Atletico Madrid survived a scare in the playoffs against Club Brugge to book a game with Tottenham, who are yet to win a game in 2026.  Atletico also suffered a scare against Barcelona, where the Catalan giants almost came back from a 4-0 loss in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey semifinal.

Atletico are the better side coming into this tie, but Tottenham will be looking to put on a fight to boost their confidence as they fight against relegation in the Premier League.

Team News

Despite receiving a red card in the 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace,  Van de Ven will still be in action for Tottenham as his suspension will only be during Premier League games.

Tudor is also hopeful of having Djed Spence back in action following a calf injury, while Destiny Udogie (thigh) is not too far away from a return either.

As for Atletico Madrid, January signing Rodrigo Mendoza came off at halftime against Real Sociedad due to an ankle problem, one that has made the 20-year-old a serious doubt for the first leg. Mendoza is just one of two fitness concerns for Simeone at present, though, and the other is hamstring victim Pablo Barrios who could even make himself available for the visit of Tudor’s side.
