Robertson has been a fixture at Liverpool for eight years but could now be lured to Spain this summer
Andy Robertson’s future at Liverpool has come under fresh uncertainty as Atletico Madrid show interest in the Scotland captain, just as Liverpool target Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as their new first-choice left-back.
Cesar Azpilicueta and fellow left-back Reinildo Mandava are out of contract and Diego Simeone, famously keen on defensive solidity, wants a trusty left-back to replace them.
Last week Robertson addressed speculation over his future, saying that he was unsure of “what the future holds”, despite having had some discussions with the club. The player then said that he wanted to focus less on his future for now and more on his summer break after another successful season that included winning the Premier League title for the second time.
The 31-year-old has been a fixture at Liverpool for eight years but he now faces serious competition if Kerkez arrives.
Kerkez, who is ten years younger than Robertson, is expected to cost Liverpool between £45m and £50m and has been earmarked by coach Arne Slot as a replacement for the Scot at left-back. The move hinges on Bournemouth completing the £15m signing of Rennes captain Adrien Truffert – a deal which is likely to be finalised when the transfer window reopens.
While Liverpool are still keen to keep Robertson and are open to selling current backup Kostas Tsimikas instead, they are reportedly relaxed about the growing interest in the Scot from Spain.
Atletico have not made formal contact yet, but a move could accelerate once the window officially opens.
