Atalanta director Tony D’Amico reveals the club’s disappointment with Ademola Lookman and plans to reassess his situation at the end of the summer transfer window.

Atalanta’s relationship with star player Ademola Lookman has hit a rough patch, with the club’s director, Tony D’Amico, expressing disappointment over the player’s recent behavior.

Lookman, who has been pushing for a transfer to Inter Milan, is currently not training with the first team and isn’t included in the squad for Atalanta’s first Serie A match of the 2024/25 season.

D’Amico stated, “Lookman is not training with the group, and we’re experiencing more and more situations like this. We’ll make assessments at the end of the transfer window. As of today, there’s disappointment.”

The tension between Lookman and Atalanta began when Inter Milan failed to meet the club’s €50 million asking price for the player’s transfer. Despite his talent and contributions to the team, including scoring 52 goals in 118 appearances and winning the African Ballon d’Or Award in 2024, Lookman’s future at Atalanta remains uncertain.

Atalanta’s Europa League victory last season was significantly contributed to by Lookman’s impressive performance, where he scored a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen. However, his current situation with the club seems to be at a stalemate. The club has frozen him out of the first team, and he’ll train separately for at least another week.

As the transfer window draws to a close, Atalanta will reassess Lookman’s situation and decide whether to reintroduce him to the team or keep him out of the squad for an extended period. With his contract running until June 2027, the club hopes to maximize the potential sale of the 27-year-old Nigerian international.
