Atalanta came from behind to beat Napoli 2-1 in Serie A, extending their unbeaten run to nine matches and dealing a significant blow to Napoli’s fading Scudetto ambitions.

Napoli’s Serie A title aspirations suffered a setback as Atalanta produced a spirited comeback to secure a 2-1 victory. The result extended La Dea’s unbeaten league run to nine matches (W7, D2) and left the Azzurri with ground to make up in the race at the top.

After a cautious opening, Napoli struck first in the 18th minute, taking advantage of slack marking inside the Atalanta box. A perfectly delivered free-kick from Miguel Gutierrez found Sam Beukema completely unmarked, and the defender calmly converted from close range for his second league goal of the season.

Atalanta responded with determination and nearly levelled before half-time. Kamaldeen Sulemana tested Vanja Milinkovic-Savic at his near post, but the goalkeeper reacted sharply to preserve Napoli’s lead. Late drama followed when Antonio Conte’s side were awarded a penalty after Isak Hien was adjudged to have fouled Rasmus Hojlund, only for referee Daniele Chiffi to overturn the decision following a VAR review.

The visitors thought they had doubled their advantage just 23 seconds into the second half when Gutierrez found the net, but celebrations were cut short as the goal was disallowed for a foul by Hojlund in the build-up. That moment proved pivotal as the momentum began to swing.

Atalanta drew level shortly after the hour mark from a set piece. Nicola Zalewski’s inviting corner was met by a glancing header from Mario Pasalic, whose effort had just enough power to beat Milinkovic-Savic and spark belief among the home supporters.

Buoyed by the equaliser, the hosts pressed forward in search of a winner. Milinkovic-Savic denied Gianluca Scamacca with a crucial save, but the pressure eventually told. With under 10 minutes remaining, Lazar Samardzic powered a superb header into the bottom corner from Lorenzo Bernasconi’s precise cross to complete the turnaround.

The victory keeps Atalanta seventh in the standings as they turn their focus to a crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund. Napoli, meanwhile, must regroup quickly ahead of their trip to Hellas Verona, knowing their title ambitions are now hanging by a thread.
