Aston Villa 4-1 Newcastle United: Emery’s Men Dominate Top-Four Rivals

Aston Villa delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Villa Park, significantly boosting their aspirations for a Champions League spot.

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the match, making it one of the quickest goals in Premier League history.

Despite Fabian Schär drawing Newcastle level a few minutes later, Villa dominated with further goals from Ian Maatsen and substitute efforts contributing to a Dan Burn own goal 

Onana added salt to Newcastle’s pain with a fourth goal after spending just a few minutes on the field..​

Aston Villa also hit the woodwork three times and missed a sitter in the second half, underlining their attacking threat.

Manager Unai Emery praised his team’s physical effort and tactical execution, with praise on Ollie Watkins’ performance and the positive impact of substitutes. Watkins, eager to reclaim his starting spot after limited minutes against PSG, expressed his motivation and commitment.​

Newcastle, despite a strong season and recent form, were outclassed by Villa and their defence was severely exposed.

Emery noted the challenge ahead with Manchester City next but expressed confidence in his team’s form. Villa’s tenth win in 11 games puts them within striking distance of the Champions League places, underlining their remarkable resurgence.​
