Mikel Arteta plays down new Arsenal contract talk while confirming Eberechi Eze’s return from injury.

Mikel Arteta has played down speculation surrounding a new contract with Arsenal, insisting his focus remains firmly on the remainder of the season. The Spaniard spoke ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with AFC Bournemouth.

Reports in British media suggested Arsenal had held positive initial talks with Arteta over extending his current deal, which is due to expire at the end of next season. However, the manager indicated that discussions are not a priority at this stage.

Arsenal’s campaign has seen mixed fortunes in recent weeks. Their hopes of winning four trophies were reduced after defeats to Manchester City in the League Cup final and Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Despite those setbacks, Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory away at Sporting in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final. They also remain on course for their first Premier League title in 22 years, sitting nine points clear at the top of the table.

When asked about a new deal, Arteta reiterated that his attention is on finishing the season strongly. He stressed his happiness at the club and confirmed his commitment to the ongoing project.

There was positive news on the injury front, with Eberechi Eze returning to training after recovering from a knock. Arteta confirmed the forward would be available for selection against Bournemouth. However, several players remain unavailable, including Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, Piero Hincapié, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurriën Timber. The manager did not provide a timeline for their returns.

Arteta also praised Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, highlighting the job he has done despite player sales. He commended the consistency shown by Bournemouth, who have climbed to mid-table with solid performances throughout the season.
