Arsenal sit six points ahead of Chelsea but Mikel Arteta warns the Stamford Bridge showdown is a huge test for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta isn’t letting Arsenal’s six‑point lead lull the team into complacency.
After a dominant midweek victory over Bayern Munich, Arteta told reporters the win was just a statement, not a finish line, and now the focus shifts to Chelsea on Sunday.
Chelsea are riding a three‑match winning streak, where they recently beat Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Blues are now in second place and if they beat Arsenal, they could close the gap in the title race.
Arteta emphasized the derby’s significance: “It’s a big game, a big London derby. We’re going to play a really good opponent, they are in really good form. We know the challenge and the opportunity we have. We are fully ready for it.”
Arsenal also hope Leandro Trossard will be fit after picking up a knock against Bayern. Arteta said, “With Leo, there is another test today. We have to see how he is feeling… There is a potential chance.”
The manager stressed consistency for his unbeaten side since August. “Not that they surprised me, but you have to be able to perform in the manner they did individually throughout long periods of the game against our opponents. That’s very difficult to do.”
Arsenal’s last two visits to Stamford Bridge ended in draws, so breaking that trend is crucial. A win would keep the six‑point gap intact and send a strong message to Chelsea and the rest of the league.
Arteta concluded: “Now it’s about evolving the same consistency on Sunday to win again.” The stakes are high, but the Gunners are prepared to meet the challenge head‑on.
