Thomas Partey, a former Arsenal footballer, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The alleged offenses took place between 2021 and 2022 and involved three women. The Ghanaian international denies the charges and has expressed his desire to clear his name.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges include two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts of rape in connection to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault linked to a third woman. The investigation began in February 2022 after police received a report of rape.
Thomas Partey’s contract with Arsenal ended recently after playing for the team since 2020. During his time at the club, he made 130 Premier League appearances, scoring nine goals, and also played in the Champions League. He has made over 50 appearances for Ghana’s national team.
The 32-year-old is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that Partey denies all the charges and has cooperated fully with the police and CPS throughout the investigation.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized that the priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. He encouraged anyone with information to contact the detectives via email.
Partey’s lawyer expressed her client’s desire to clear his name, stating that he welcomes the opportunity to do so. Given the ongoing legal proceedings, Partey is unable to comment further.
The case will proceed with Partey’s court appearance, where the charges against him will be addressed.
