Arsenal Survive Late Scare Against Wolves

Yerson Mosquera’s own goal helped Arsenal to a 2-1 win, pushing them 5 points clear at the top of the table.

Arsenal were lucky against bottom-placed Wolves and Arsenal fans would hope this luck doesn’t run out.

The Gunners needed a win to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table and coming into this Wolves game, it looked like they would get.

However, things didn’t go according to plan.

Wolves who have one of, if not the worst defensive record in the Premier League made it difficult for Arsenal to get a shot on target.

Arsenal didn’t have a shot on target for most of the first half with Wolves creating the best chance of the game when Hwang started a counter and worked Raya into making a save.

Arsenal were locked out by Wolves and it was going to take a miracle to break through the Wolves defence. The miracle came in the 70th minute as Saka’s almost perfect corner was tipped onto the crossbar. The rebound bounced off goalkeeper Johnstone and into the net, giving Arsenal the lead.

The Emirates erupted as Arsenal were on their way to another three points. However, things went quiet as Arokodare 90th minute equaliser added more fire to the game..

It was tense now, anybody could win it. Wolves who are currently in a poor run of form just needed to hold on to get a huge result but they couldn’t.

Another own goal gave Arsenal the lead as Yersom Mosquera headed in Bukayo Saka’s cross in the 94th minute. This swung the tie in Arsenal’s favour, putting them 5 points clear of closest rivals, Manchester City.

The game was a subtle reminder of the unpredictability of the Premier League and how teams need to stay focused every minute of every game.

For Wolves, they’re still without a win in the Premier League while for Arsenal, it was a luck coming through when they needed it.
