Arsenal has completed the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a deal worth almost £60m, with the Spain midfielder agreeing to a five-year contract.

Arsenal has strengthened its midfield with the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a deal worth almost £60m.

The 26-year-old deep-lying midfielder has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners, becoming their second signing of the summer transfer window after Kepa Arrizabalaga. Zubimendi has played 236 times for Real Sociedad, scoring 10 goals, and has also become a regular for Spain with 19 caps.

Zubimendi rejected an approach from Liverpool last summer and has now chosen Arsenal as his next destination.

“This is a huge moment in my career,” said Zubimendi. “It’s the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.” He added that he was attracted to Arsenal’s style of play, which he believes is a good fit for him.

Zubimendi has already made a name for himself on the international stage, helping Spain win Euro 2024 and scoring in the recent Nations League final against Portugal.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is excited to have Zubimendi on board, praising his quality and football intelligence. “Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team,” said Arteta.

Zubimendi will wear the number 36 jersey for Arsenal.

Arsenal is also in talks to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres for £70m and has agreed a deal with Brentford to sign midfielder Christian Norgaard for an initial £10m.

The addition of Zubimendi and Norgaard will strengthen Arsenal’s midfield, and the team is looking forward to seeing what they can achieve with their new signings. With their talent and dedication, Zubimendi and Norgaard have the potential to become key players for Arsenal in the years to come.
