Both teams were really sloppy in the game, especially in the first half. Arsenal were almost gifted a goal by Sanchez, who made two errors in the opening stages, but Chelsea’s backline did enough to keep the game 0-0.
The opening game came midway through the first half as Saliba bundled home a corner to make it 1-0. Arsenal kept their high tempo and made it difficult for Chelsea to play out from their half. The Blues later grew into the game and were rewarded with a goal.
Reece James fired in a corner to the front post; however, it was headed into the net by Arsenal defender Hincapie. Arsenal fans were left distraught as the first half ended 1-1.
In the second half, both teams still played cagely and it caused the Arsenal fanbase to react. With the title on the line, Arsenal fans needed a goal from their team to extend their lead over Manchester City.
The Gunners eventually got their goal as Timber bundled the ball in from yet another corner. The goal was even more frustrating for Chelsea as they had been controlling the game for a while and almost took the lead. Raya clawed the ball out of the goal from a Reece James corner and also saved his team from going behind after Joao Pedro’s free header.
Just after seeing Arsenal go ahead, there was more misery for Chelsea as Pedro Neto was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Martinelli. This is now Chelsea’s 9th red card this season and 7th in the Premier League.
Despite being a man down, Chelsea showed more courage. They almost went ahead through Garnacho, who forced Raya into an incredible save, while Delap’s goal was ruled out for offside.
In the end, Arsenal took all three points as we enter the final 9 games of the season. For Chelsea, they are now stuck in 6th place, three points behind Liverpool and six points behind Aston Villa and third-placed Manchester United.
