Arsenal beat Everton 1-0, and returned to the top of the Premier League table, sitting just two points ahead of Manchester City.
Arsenal has regained the top spot in the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Gunners were helped by a penalty awarded after Everton defender Jake O’Brien needlessly handled Declan Rice’s 27th-minute corner, with Viktor Gyokeres scoring emphatically.
Manchester City had taken the top spot earlier with a 3-0 win over West Ham United, putting pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side. However, Arsenal responded well, despite not being at their best.
They could have extended their lead after the break, but Leandro Trossard and Martin Zubimendi hit the woodwork when they should have done better..
The win moves Arsenal two points above Manchester City at the top of the table, with six points clear of third-placed Aston Villa, who host Manchester United on Sunday.
Everton, on the other hand, slip to 10th in the table on 24 points, behind Brighton on goal difference. The Toffees struggled to create goal-scoring chances, and their poor performance continues.
Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to build on this win, especially with their next game against Brighton & Hove Albion on December 27.
