Liverpool’s 2024/25 season has been nothing short of remarkable, and they owe it to one man, Arne Slot. Appointed to replace Jurgen Klopp after his legendary spell at the club, Slot faced modest expectations. Few fans or pundits envisioned Liverpool lifting the trophy this season.

When Slot came in, expectations weren’t high for him as many fans and pundits didn’t really picture Liverpool winning the title, but he turned doubters into believers. He put on a show with this Liverpool side despite failing to sign new players. He took the team on a scintillating run, crowning it with a Premier League title.

This is by no-means an easy feat. He now joins an elite class of managers who have won the Premier League in their first try. Slot changed Liverpool style of play from the 4-3-3 under Klopp to 4-2-31, with Gravenberch, MacAllister and Szoboszlai rotating the double pivot.

The Stats Behind Liverpool’s 2024/25 Premier League Triumph

To start off the season, Liverpool won 8 of their first 10 games under Arne Slot which is the best record for any new manager in the league, and that momentum didn’t stop there.

They have gone on to win 28 matches, losing just 4 of the 37 games they have played. Against big sides, they have played impressively with victories over Chelsea (they beat Chelsea once), Manchester City (beat City twice) and Manchester United (beat Manchester United once). In both fixtures against Arsenal, they managed to play a draw (it ended 2-2 on both occasions).

In terms of goals, Liverpool have conceded the second least amount of goals (40) while scoring the most goals in the league (85). Star forward Mohamed Salah led the Golden Boot race with 28 goals and topped the assist charts with 18, needing just two more to equal the Premier League assist record.

Arne Slot Joins Elite Premier League Managers Who Won in Their Debut Season

Arne Slot is one of five Premier League managers to have won the league in his first try. The first person to do it was Jose Mourinho. He came to Chelsea after winning the Champions League with Chelsea and he showed why he was called ‘The Special One’.

He won the league in his first try in 2004-2005 season, and he defended it in the 2005-2006 season,  winning it back to back times. Mourinho went on to set a new and currently unbroken record by going 86  home games unbeaten and also the least goals conceded in a Premier League campaign (16). He would later win the FA cup and two league cups in his first stint at the club.

Carlo Ancelotti was the second one to do it and he did it again with Chelsea in the 2009-2010 season. He secured 86 points with the club, scored over a 100 goals and followed up his triumph with an FA Cup double.

Manuel Pellegrini during his time at Manchester City won the Premier League for the Cityzens in his first try. In the 2013-2014 season, he won it with 86 points, recording over a 100 goals as well while claiming a League cup to complete a domestic double.

Claudio Ranieri did it in the 2015-2016 season for Leicester City. That season is still a fairytale for the Foxes as they just gained promotion to the Premier League. They went of a fairytale triumph, claiming 81 points which was just enough to see them win the Premier League.

Chelsea would once again benefit from the tactical ability of a seasoned manager as he guided them to a Premier League trophy in the 2016-2017 season which was his first try. He changed Chelsea’s formation to a 3-4-3 and went on a 13-game winning streak. He was dismissed in his second season after winning the FA Cup and finishing fifth.

Slot is now part of this elite company after winning the Premier League in his first try. Currently 12 points clear at the top, Liverpool have already been crowned Premier League champions after thrashing Spurs 5-1 to clinch the trophy.

Liverpool’s Performance Across All Competitions in 2024/25

They have also had a good run across all competitions and would’ve hoped for more silverware to add their cabinet.

They were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round by Plymouth Argyle and also in the UEFA Champions League by PSG in a penalty shootout. They lost the EFL cup to Newcastle after the Magpies beat them 1-0 in the finals.

Slot has come a long way from being a winner in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord to being a Premier League champion. It’s no easy feat and the club looks poised to do more.

With Salah and Van Dijk signing new contracts, the club looks to continue competing at the highest level. They are equally preparing for Trent’s departure by making forays in the transfer market ahead of next season.

There are new expectations for Slot, seeing how he has performed in the 2024-25 season. It is expected that Premier League teams will adjust to his style and make it harder for him to play but it also sets the stage for him to show the type of manager he is. His future at Liverpool looks bright and hopefully, he can carry on this success.
