Jurgen Klopp “definitely” had an aura but so do I, Liverpool manager claims
Arne Slot does not agree with Wayne Rooney’s comment that he does not have the “aura” to manage Liverpool.
The England legend and pundit said Slot would probably be dismissed if he did not qualify for the Champions League next season, insisting the Dutchman did not have “that aura about him”.
“It’s strange to be talking about him trying to keep his job when he won the Premier League last season,” Rooney said in Skybet’s the Overlap Fan Debate. “I’ve seen him a couple of times, but I don’t think he has that aura about him to be Liverpool’s manager.
“Perhaps it’s difficult because they’re coming off a great spell with Jurgen Klopp, and that’s tough for anyone.”
Rooney added: “If he doesn’t finish in the top five, he’ll be sacked, I’m sure of it. It’s absurd to say that when he just won the league.”
“We are all different,” Slot said in response. “The only thing we have in common, Jurgen and me, is that we both won the league – and that’s not too bad, is it? I think the more a manager wins, the more aura he has.”
Slot of course won the Premier League in his debut season and Liverpool are off the pace this term, but the Dutchman still has a chance to bring more silverware to the club.
Liverpool’s form is improving, and they are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League, which Slot has been dreaming of winning.
“I don’t know if you agree with Wayne Rooney, by the way, but if this would be the general opinion then I think people would probably tell you last season I had more aura than this season,” Slot said.

“But maybe he’s the only one who has this opinion; I don’t know, you tell me. It’s the first time that I heard this but I think it’s fair to say that Jurgen definitely has an aura.
“I can talk about him, not about myself, but he definitely had that. But a winning manager has an aura as well.”
