The Premier League-winning coach is seeking additions to his squad for next season
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised his current group of players but admits he sees room for “one or two extra weapons” in the upcoming transfer window. Liverpool won the 2024/25 Premier League title but the squad could do with some additions going into next season.
“I think we can find one or two extra weapons this team doesn’t have,” said Slot. “Maybe, maybe, by using the transfer market. That is what we are trying to achieve. That will make us only stronger.
“That is what we need because we saw [Manchester] City spending £200m in the [January] transfer window. All of them will.”
Liverpool have already agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Jeremie Frimpong, according to Fabrizio Romano. The club will trigger the Netherlands international’s €35m release clause and bring him to Anfield to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Another player who could come to the club is Milos Kerkez. It is understood that Liverpool have contacted Bournemouth for the left-back and are in talks with him for personal terms. The Hungary international will compete with, and then ultimately replace Andy Robertson at left-back.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal were also given the green light this week to approach Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to Metro. Liverpool are in need of a front man with the future of Darwin Nunez in doubt. The Uruguayan has featured in 45 games so far this season for Liverpool, but they were mostly substitute appearances. He contributed seven goals and seven assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old Ekitike scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in the just-concluded Bundesliga term. Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche said: “Hugo has to decide [his future]. I’m glad we have him. If he decides otherwise, our belief is this: if a player develops faster than us, then we let him go – as long as our demands are met.”
