Club interested in a potential loan deal of up to two years for Antony, but United would be reluctant to continue paying any part of his salary
Real Betis have begun negotiations to bring Manchester United winger Antony back to the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Seville on loan, with the player’s representatives now in Spain for face-to-face discussions.
Betis are determined to strike a deal early in the summer window and have made re-signing the Brazilian one of their top priorities after his impressive loan spell last season. Antony scored nine goals and added five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions, quickly becoming a fan favourite under manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Antony’s brother, his agent and legal representatives have travelled to Seville this week to meet with Betis officials, according to Diario de Sevilla. Discussions are expected to accelerate over the coming days, with a second round of talks also scheduled between Betis and Manchester United directly.
Betis are aiming for a loan deal with the option to extend the arrangement for a second season, namely 2026-27. The Spanish side are also interested in acquiring a percentage of the player’s rights.
However, a deal could prove difficult to do as United would be unwilling to accept any outcome that would require them to continue paying a portion of Antony’s wages.
Competition for the 24-year-old’s signature could also complicate the situation for Betis, with Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus reportedly monitoring the situation. Both clubs possess the financial ability to present more attractive terms to Manchester United.
Still, Betis are banking on Antony’s emotional connection to the club to make a difference. The Brazilian international, currently away with the national team after receiving a call-up by new manager Carlo Ancelotti, will not be directly involved in talks but has previously spoken warmly of his time at the club.
“My job is to play, and I’m doing that well,” he said a few weeks back. “I love Betis and all the people here, but I have a contract with Manchester United and I don’t know what will happen next.”
