Winger says the rage he displayed was a sign of competitiveness rather than disrespect
Real Betis winger Antony has clarified his position after an emotional outburst on the bench in his sideβs defeat to Alaves on Sunday.
The player was substituted off in the 59th minute and he reacted with fury on the bench, kicking clothes on the floor and throwing his gloves down. In another scene he was shown in video footage burying his face in his hands.

Antony said afterwards on Instagram: βWe are in a key moment of the season and the most important thing is Betis.
βThe images from the last match reflect competitiveness and self-demand, never a lack of respect for the club or the group. We remain united, working hard and focused on our objectives.”
Antony has been one of the key figures for Betis this season, producing eight goals and seven assists in 24 appearances. But he has struggled with a groin problem and only tried to play through the pain against Alaves. It affected his performance, leading to manager Manuel Pellegrini substituting him just before the hour.
Betis have won only one of their last four games, losing two, but they remain in contention for the European spots, placed sixth and nine points away from Villareal in fourth, although the latter have a game in hand.
