Antoine Griezmann is gearing up for a move to Major League Soccer side Orlando City, with the club now in advanced discussions to secure his signature ahead of the summer.

The Atletico Madrid forward has reportedly been granted permission to travel to the US to finalise the deal, signalling that a transfer is entering its final stages.

It is thought that a move could have happened much earlier in February, but it was delayed by Atletico’s progression to the Copa del Rey final, as Griezmann would be needed and is also keen to secure the trophy before leaving. Atletico play Real Sociedad on 18 April.

The 34-year-old is now set for a summer transfer. He will join the growing list of European stars who have moved across the pond and are increasing the strength and profile of the MLS, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Thomas Muller and Son Heung-min.

A move to MLS has long mooted for Griezmann. He is loves US sports and culture and has frequently attended NBA games and been linked with Chicago Fire.

Griezmann has won the Uefa Super Cup, Europa League and Spanish Super Cup with Atletico, the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, and the World Cup and Uefa Nations League with France.

He is also Atletico’s all-time top scorer at 211 goals so far. This season he has scored 13 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.
