Ruben Amorim is using tracking technology in Manchester United training sessions to raise intensity levels of players.

The United head coach wants to raise standards on the training ground and has instructed staff to monitor players’ physical output using performance tracker vests.

The system will record data while players train, and then provide a live feed of their movements and effort levels on devices that United’s coaching staff will have with them.

With the vests, Amorim and his staff can immediately observe those who are not performing at expected levels in training.

The technology also serves a medical purpose. It can help identify early signs of fatigue or overload that could lead to injury, which means that staff can quickly adjust players’ workload based on their physical condition.

The decision to use medical technology for training comes after United recorded some of the highest injury numbers in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

Key players like Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount all missed extended periods last season, and Amorim wants to prioritise fitness alongside performance.

The players have been told that their intensity will be closely watched, and those not meeting the required levels will immediately be challenged on the training ground.

Amorim told the media: “They have rules now, and that can change the way you train. If you don’t train in the right way, I have footage to show you.

“And I will show you in front of everybody. If you train one time bad, I will show you the image. I will not speak with you, not just speak. I will show everything.”
