It wasn’t his best game but he’s ready for the next challenge, head coach insists

Ruben Amorim says Leny Yoro struggled mentally after being substituted for a poor performance during Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, because he is “young” and “wants to do everything so well”.

Yoro had a shaky game and conceded the first-half penalty that allowed Jean-Philippe Mateta to put Palace ahead. The 20-year-old was eventually withdrawn nine minutes into the second half and appeared frustrated on the bench and after the final whistle.

“He cannot give that [reaction] to the people, the way he came to the bench,” Amorim said. “He understands that, but he was really frustrated. It shows he cares.

“He knows it wasn’t his best game, but he did some things well and I showed him that. He’s fit and ready for the next challenge.”

The United manager said Yoro could not get his mind off his first-half performance and that he had to speak with him.

“I also spoke with him because he thinks too much,” said Amorim. “He makes a mistake in the game and then he struggles because he’s too young and he wants to do everything so well.

“He’s growing with games and with setbacks; it’s not easy for him as a young guy.”
