Manchester United have put four players up for sale this summer but struggled to move them on
Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the futures of the Manchester United players who are seeking exits this summer will not determine how the club move in the transfer market.
The club agreed to part ways with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho this summer. Rashford has since joined Barcelona on loan, while the others remain in limbo. None of them have been part of the squad since the start of pre-season.
It has been thought that United need to make these sales in order to free up funds to sign players in key positions, but Amorim dismissed that idea.
United’s manager said: “It’s not an idea that these players are going to leave and then we’ll receive another player.
“We don’t know what is going to happen but we are not waiting to take out someone to bring another player. One thing is not responsible for the other.”
The club have already spent close to £200m this summer, adding Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to revamp Amorim’s frontline, all without making a single sale.
They have also made enquiries about a midfielder, though the target signing of Carlos Baleba was deemed unachievable this summer, and are in advanced talks to bring in Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Meanwhile, United’s outcasts remain isolated from the rest of the squad and are likely to be until the window closes.
Amorim said: “I know it’s not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear that they want to play in a different club.”
