Manchester United manager says the pressure of the club affects his players during matches
Ruben Amorim has insisted he is not worried about his future at Manchester United after a 3-1 loss to Brentford left his team facing fresh scrutiny.
United arrived at the Gtech Community Stadium looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time under the Portuguese coach but were overrun right from the opening.
Brentford struck twice inside 20 minutes and could have added more before the visitors began to settle. The result leaves Amorim under pressure once again after having relieved himself of some of it with the victory against Chelsea, but he dismissed suggestions that his position is at risk.
“I am always comfortable with the job,” said Amorim. “I am not concerned. It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here. I am never concerned about my job, I am not that kind of guy.”
United’s head coach said that his team’s pre-match preparations had focused on countering Brentford’s anticipated direct play and physical approach, but that the players struggled to carry out the plan under pressure during the game.
“I feel that sometimes in the games when things are really hard, they are not the same,” said Amorim. “That is the pressure of the club.
“Today we played the game of Brentford, not our game. When you play the opponent’s game, it’s harder to win the game in the end.”
Amorim stressed that his focus remains on restoring belief in his side rather than speculation over his job.
“I’m just thinking here what is the best to win the next game. I’m not trying to protect the players or myself. I’m just trying to win the next game, create again the momentum. That’s it. I try to be really objective in my analysis of the game.”
