Real Madrid boss says there are small details to correct but “the feeling is positive”
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has praised Kylian Mbappe and said the forward is back to full strength, after he scored twice in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Real Oviedo.
Mbappe missed time earlier in the summer due to illness at the Club World Cup, but he has regained the weight he lost and looks sharper for it, according to his coach.
“He’s gained four kilos back, he had lost that during the club world cup,” said Alonso. “He looks good. We’re still correcting small details, but the feeling is positive.”
The Frenchman struck either side of half-time to put Madrid in control against Oviedo, before substitute Vinicius Junior added a third in stoppage time.
The victory made it two wins out of two for Madrid at the start of the league campaign, despite fears of a lack of fitness after their participation in the club world cup.
The Madrid head coach also praised Mbappe last week and said he had a hunger to perform for Los Blancos.
“I think after last year and after doing a lot of good things, Mbappe wants more,” Alonso said. “I don’t know if it’s because of the number 10 or because of his ambition to win, but you feel he wants to perform better individually and collectively.”
