Alexander-Arnold, Carvajal and Huijsen return for Real Madrid Ahead of Clásico
Real Madrid have been handed a major boost ahead of Sunday’s clásico with the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal and Dean Huijsen to the squad. All three defenders have recovered from muscle injuries that kept them out of recent fixtures, with Xabi Alonso confirming on Saturday that “almost all the players who couldn’t play against Juventus are in the squad.”
Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined for the past month after sustaining a hamstring injury, while Carvajal missed several games through a combination of a muscle issue and suspension following his red card in the Champions League match against Marseille.
Huijsen, who withdrew from Spain duty earlier this month with a calf problem, also returns after missing league wins over Getafe and Juventus. Dani Ceballos is back in contention as well, having sat out the last two matches with a minor muscle strain.
It is unclear whether the manager would risk starting any of them given their lack of match fitness.
“You’ll see [the starting XI] tomorrow,” Alonso said. “I’m working on the premise that all the players in the squad can be starters. It depends on the mental, tactical, physical aspects but they can all play.”
