Allegri Calls for Calm After AC Milan Collapse but Insists Top Four Is Safe

Massimiliano Allegri admitted AC Milan approached both halves poorly in their 2-0 loss to Sassuolo, but the Rossoneri boss remains confident Champions League qualification is still within reach.

Massimiliano Allegri admitted AC Milan threw the game away after a damaging 2-0 defeat to Sassuolo, but the Rossoneri coach has urged supporters not to panic, insisting Champions League qualification remains firmly in their hands.

AC Milan’s latest setback means they have now managed just one win from their last five Serie A outings, piling further pressure on a side that once looked comfortable in the top four.

The Rossoneri endured a nightmare start to both halves at the Mapei Stadium, conceding inside the opening five minutes through Domenico Berardi before being hit again almost immediately after the restart by Armand Lauriente. Those two lapses left Allegri visibly frustrated, and he admitted afterwards that his side had entered each period with the wrong mentality and made life unnecessarily difficult for themselves.

According to the AC Milan boss, technical errors and poor decision-making were central to the collapse. He described it as a bad Sunday in which his team repeatedly made avoidable mistakes in possession and never found any rhythm. While acknowledging the current slump, Allegri stressed that Milan cannot allow one poor stretch to erase what he believes has still been ten months of solid work over the course of the campaign.

Despite the growing nerves around San Siro, Allegri remains adamant that Milan will still secure a Champions League place. He insisted the objective is not at risk and said he would gladly take qualification even if it is only mathematically confirmed on the final day.

Allegri also conceded that Fikayo Tomori’s red card after just 24 minutes played a major role in shaping the contest. Reduced to ten men while already trailing, Milan were left with a mountain to climb. However, Allegri stopped short of singling out the defender for blame, instead choosing to frame it as one of those unfortunate moments that can happen during a difficult spell.
