AC Milan coach Max Allegri acknowledged that his team made “cheap errors” and failed to take chances in their Coppa Italia loss to Lazio.
AC Milan’s Coppa Italia campaign came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Lazio, with Mattia Zaccagni scoring the winning goal.
Max Allegri admitted that his team made mistakes and failed to take chances, saying “Lazio won a game where we had more difficulties compared to Saturday, as we misplaced passes a few times in the first half to gift chances”
Allegri criticized his team’s defending on the corner kick that led to the winning goal, saying “we conceded on a corner where we could’ve certainly defended better”. He also pointed out that Milan had made similar mistakes in previous games, giving away free kicks and corners when in control.
Milan’s major highlight from the game was Rafael Leao’s missed chance, when he blasted a loose ball over from eight yards. Allegri praised Leao’s performance, saying “he moved well inside and outside the area.”
Despite the loss, Allegri remains focused on Milan’s Serie A title challenge. “Our objective remains to get back into the Champions League next season,” he said.
Milan are currently joint leaders of Serie A alongside Napoli.
Allegri was asked if the loss was a step backwards, but he disagreed. “No, absolutely not,” he said. “It’s right to be angry because an elimination in a knockout round is disappointing, but on the other hand, we have to look forward.”
