The Magpies are understood to value Isak for around £150m

Alexander Isak is considering leaving Newcastle United and has told the club he wants to explore his options this transfer window.

The 25-year-old was left out of Newcastle’s recent friendly against Celtic and did not travel with the squad to Asia for their summer tour.

Officially, the club cited a minor thigh issue as the reason, but sources close to the situation say Isak preferred not to travel due to ongoing discussions over his future.

Liverpool remain one of the clubs monitoring his situation. They made enquiries earlier this summer and had explored a deal in the region of £120m before turning their focus to Hugo Ekitike, whom they signed from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this week for an initial £69m.

Newcastle have so far maintained that Isak is not for sale, but the club’s stance could soften if an offer that meets their valuation arrives and the player makes it clear he wants to leave.

The club are understood to value Isak for around £150m.

The Magpies signed the Swede from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record fee of around £60m. Since then, he has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances to prove himself one of the best strikers in the English game.
