Italian footballer Alessandro Florenzi has retired from professional football at 34, ending a distinguished career with clubs like Roma, PSG, and AC Milan.

Alessandro Florenzi, the Italian right-back who played for Roma and Milan, has announced his retirement from professional football at 34.

In an Instagram post, Florenzi expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his career. His journey began at Roma’s youth academy, where he joined at just 11 years old and spent 20 years developing his skills.

During his time with Roma, Florenzi made 280 appearances and became an integral part of the team. He later joined Valencia on loan in 2019 and then spent time with PSG and Milan. His move to Milan was made permanent, and he played 77 games for the Rossoneri over four seasons, contributing to their 2021-2022 Serie A title win.

Florenzi’s Milan career was marked by highs and lows, with injuries limiting his playing time.

In August, he underwent surgery for a knee injury, which likely influenced his decision to retire. Milan valued Florenzi’s experience and leadership but seemed prepared to let him go, even offering him a managerial role within the club.

The Italian defender’s departure from Milan represents a significant loss, both technically and emotionally. Florenzi had become a fan favorite at San Siro, and his dedication to the team was evident. Milan saluted him as a “leader on and off the field” and thanked him for his contributions.

As Florenzi begins this new chapter, his legacy at Milan will be remembered for his commitment and passion. With his retirement, Florenzi leaves behind a career filled with notable moments, including becoming the first Italian player to reach the Champions League semifinals with three different teams: Roma, PSG, and Milan.
