Al Nassr has signed Spanish defender Inigo Martinez on a free transfer after his departure from Barcelona, with the 34-year-old agreeing to a contract until 2026.

Al Nassr, the Saudi Pro League club managed by Jorge Jesus, has officially confirmed the signing of Spanish defender Inigo Martinez on a free transfer. Martinez, who left Barcelona after winning the domestic treble with the Catalan side last season, has agreed to a contract with Al Nassr until 2026.

This signing marks the second major addition to Al Nassr’s squad this summer, following the arrival of Portuguese forward João Felix from Chelsea.

The 34-year-old defender boasts an impressive resume, having started his career at Real Sociedad before moving to Athletic Bilbao in 2018. Martinez joined Barcelona in 2023 and played a crucial role in helping the team secure the La Liga title, Spanish Super Cup, and Copa Del Rey. He has also earned 21 caps for Spain between 2013 and 2023.

Martinez’s departure from Barcelona will free up space on the club’s wage bill, allowing them to register new signings.

Al Nassr, on the other hand, are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The club recently extended Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract for two more seasons, and Martinez’s signing is expected to bolster their defense.

Al Nassr is set to face Al Ittihad in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup on August 19. With Martinez and João Felix joining the team, Al Nassr will be looking to make a strong impression in the competition. The club’s recent performances have been promising, with four wins in their last five matches, including a 4-0 victory over Rio Ave FC.
