Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic scored as AC Milan defeated Lecce 2-0, earning their first points of the Serie A season.
AC Milan secured their first win of the Serie A season with a 2-0 victory over Lecce. The Rossoneri had a disastrous start to the campaign, but they bounced back with a convincing performance at the Via del Mare.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and substitute Christian Pulisic scored the goals that sealed the win for Milan.
The match got off to a promising start for Milan, with Matteo Gabbia heading the ball into the net after just five minutes. However, the goal was disallowed following a VAR review due to Gabbia’s push on Lassana Coulibaly. Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone made several crucial saves, denying Loftus-Cheek twice in the early stages of the game.
Despite dominating possession, Milan struggled to create clear-cut chances. Santiago Gimenez wasted a golden opportunity when he fired wide after springing the offside trap. Pervis Estupinan made a series of early mistakes, giving the ball away and risking a penalty when making up for it on Pierotti.
The deadlock was finally broken on the stroke of halftime, but it wasn’t until the 63rd minute that Milan scored the goal that counted. Luka Modric’s free kick found Loftus-Cheek, who flicked the ball backwards into the far top corner for a beautiful header.
Just 20 seconds after Lecce’s Nikola Stulic failed to capitalize on a wayward N’Dri effort, Milan sealed the win. Lecce’s defenders failed to deal with a long Mike Maignan kick, and the ball bounced into the path of Pulisic, who gratefully converted the gift.
With this victory, Milan earns their first points of the season, and the team will aim to keep the momentum going in their upcoming matches.
