AC Milan defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Derby della Madonnina thanks to a Pervis Estupinan goal

AC Milan kept the Serie A title race alive after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over city rivals Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina. The result saw AC Milan complete their first league double over Inter since the 2010/11 season while reducing the gap at the top of the table.

Inter’s last derby win came in April 2024, and their recent struggles in this fixture continued early in the match. A costly mistake from goalkeeper Yann Sommer allowed Christian Pulisic to set up Luka Modrić, but the midfielder’s long-range effort narrowly missed the target.

Despite Milan’s early chance, the opening half-hour was largely quiet in terms of goalmouth action. Inter created limited opportunities, with Federico Dimarco attempting two efforts, one of which was blocked while the other sailed over the crossbar.

Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan tried to spark his side into life with a powerful run through the centre of Milan’s defence. However, his shot from inside the box was comfortably saved by Mike Maignan. Moments later, AC Milan struck the decisive blow. Youssouf Fofana threaded a clever pass through to Pervis Estupiñán, who fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net to give the Rossoneri the lead.

Inter pushed harder after the break in search of an equaliser. Piotr Zieliński tested Maignan with a shot at the near post, while Dimarco missed a clear opportunity from close range after a pass from Mkhitaryan.

Late efforts from both sides failed to change the scoreline, and AC Milan held on to secure an important derby victory.

The result cut Inter’s lead at the top of Serie A to seven points with 10 matches remaining, ending the Nerazzurri’s eight-game winning streak and reigniting the title race.
