Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane scores a late winner in a 3-2 victory over third-tier Wehen Wiesbaden in the German Cup first round, after missing a penalty earlier in the match.
Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has once again proven himself to be a crucial player for his team, scoring a dramatic late winner in the German Cup first round.
Bayern Munich secured a 3-2 win over third-tier Wehen Wiesbaden, thanks to Kane’s stoppage-time header. The match was filled with twists and turns, with Bayern initially taking the lead through a Kane penalty in the 16th minute.
Kane’s penalty was his 31st consecutive successful spot-kick for club and country. Michael Olise doubled Bayern’s lead in the 51st minute, capitalising on a defensive error by Wiesbaden. However, the Bundesliga champions failed to maintain their lead, and Wiesbaden staged a remarkable comeback.
Fatih Kaya scored twice for Wiesbaden, first with a sliding volley in the 64th minute and again in the 70th minute, levelling the score at 2-2. The momentum had shifted in favour of the home team, and Bayern faced the possibility of an upset.
Kane had the opportunity to regain the lead for Bayern but had his 76th-minute penalty saved by Wiesbaden goalkeeper Florian Stritzel. Stritzel made a brilliant save, and the England captain’s follow-up effort was also denied.
Despite the setback, Kane redeemed himself with a crucial header in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Josip Stanisic delivered a cross that Kane headed home with ease, securing a 3-2 win for Bayern and sparing them from potential embarrassment.
The win means Bayern progress to the next round of the German Cup, with the draw for the second round set to take place on Sunday.
