The Italian Serie A kicked off on Saturday, August 23, and it had a mix of results. In this article, we’ll look at some of the top results in the league and talking points.

Napoli Begins Title Defense in Style 

The 2025/26 Serie A season got off to a flying start for Napoli as they recorded a 2-0 win over Sassuolo on the opening day. It was a result that Partinopei fans would’ve hoped for, and even better,  Kevin De Bruyne was on the score sheet.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring for the Serie A champions as he headed in from close range, continuing where he left off last season.

New signing, Kevin De Bruyne, got a debut goal as he scored a free kick in the 57th minute to double Napoli’s lead. 

For Sassuolo, the night got worse as new signing Ismaël Kone got red-carded on his Serie A debut. 

Roma and Juventus Win, AC Milan and Lazio Struggle

For fellow Serie A giants Roma and Juventus, it was a good opening weekend. Juventus saw their new striker, Jonathan David, score a debut goal as they beat Parma 2-0 despite going down to 10 men. Roma, on the other hand, saw off Bologna thanks to a lone goal from new signing Wesley França.

AC Milan and Lazio didn’t have the start that they would’ve hoped for. With Allegri returning to the reins at AC Milan, the Rossoneri expected stability and for him to hit the ground running, but Cremonese denied Allegri a fairytale beginning as they beat the Rossoneri 2-1 at the San Siro

Tottenham transfer target, Nico Paz, stole the show against Lazio as he provided an assist and scored a delightful free kick to take all three points from Lazio in a 2-0 victory.

Statement Win From Inter

Inter began the 2025/26 Serie A campaign in flying colors as they put five goals past Torino. Both of their strikers were on the scoresheet as Thuram got a brace while Martinez got a single goal. Bastoni got a goal to open the scoring and to close out the game; Inter’s debutant, Ange-Yoan Bonny, got on the scoresheet.
