Comment comes after the winger shone in Everton’s first match at new stadium

Jack Grealish has admitted he struggled to enjoy football during his final seasons at Manchester City, but believes his loan move to Everton can help him rediscover his best form.

The 29-year-old made a strong start to life on Merseyside on Sunday, registering two assists in Everton’s 2-0 win over Brighton in their first competitive match at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Before the move to Merseyside, Grealish had had a difficult spell at City. The winger became the most expensive English player in history when City signed him from Aston Villa for £100m in 2021, but at the Etihad he failed to replicate the form he had shown at Villa.

He made only seven league starts last season as he slipped down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order.

Grealish said: “Maybe at times in the last couple of years, I’ve fallen out of love – not fallen out of love, but just didn’t enjoy football as much as I should,” Grealish said.

“I absolutely love football, and I want to have that feeling again when you wake up on a match day and you just can’t wait to get out there.”
