Left wing-back believes top spot should always be the club’s target

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has said the Premier League title remains the target at Old Trafford, despite the club’s stuttering start to the season.

“One hundred percent we are aiming to win the Premier League,” said Dorgu. “We are Manchester United, so that’s always going to be our goal.

United’s draw at Craven Cottage left them with just one point from their opening two matches under Ruben Amorim. The performance also worryingly evoked memories of last season where they were outplayed by teams for large spells of the game.

Few expect United to mount a genuine title challenge this season and their performance so far has done nothing to change that perspective, but Dorgu’s comments at least reflect the standards players are expected to uphold at the club.

The left wing-back himself has vastly improved since his arrival in the January window. In both of United’s games so far this season he has constantly got into good positions to create problems. Against Arsenal, he came close to opening his goalscoring account for the club with a fierce strike that hit the post.

But Dorgu believes that his mindset is shared by all of his teammates.

“Everyone has a point to prove this season,” said Dorgu. “We need to get back to Europe, so we need to stick together, be happy and positive and try to do what the coach asks.”
