Defeat means Portuguese forward has now lost three consecutive finals since moving to Riyadh
Cristiano Ronaldo continues his wait for a major trophy in Saudi Arabia after Al-Nassr were beaten by Al-Ahli in the Saudi Super Cup final in Hong Kong.
Ronaldo scored in normal time and later converted from the spot in the shootout, but it was not enough to prevent Al-Nassr from losing 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
The defeat extends a frustrating run for the Portuguese forward, who has now lost three consecutive finals since moving to Riyadh in early 2023.
The 40-year-old, who reached 100 goals in Al-Nassr colours with his strike in the first half, looked visibly frustrated at full-time. His goal had opened the scoring for his side and a late effort from Marcelo Brozovic gave hope of winning it in regulation time, but Roger Ibanez’s equaliser forced extra time, before Al-Alhi sank them in spotkicks.
This latest setback follows the King’s Cup and Super Cup final defeats last year. Ronaldo’s only silverware with Al-Nassr remains the Arab Club Champions Cup, which is not recognised by Fifa as an official title.
