Club have sold Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze to Bayern Munich and Arsenal respectively
Crystal Palace need to replace the top players they’ve sold or risk falling into a relegation battle, manager Oliver Glasner has warned.
Glasner’s comments come after forward Eberechi Eze completed a £67.5m move to Arsenal this week.
The head coach said he was “worried about Crystal Palace” given they have made no notable signing so far this summer but have let two of their best players go in the space of a year.
“Let’s say before we arrived, if I’d asked you, who are the most important players in Crystal Palace attack, what would have been your answer?” Glasner asked reporters.
“Eze and Olise. So both are gone, and then you need to replace them.”
Glasner joined Palace in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson while the club sat 15th in the table and five points above the drop zone. He has since led the club to a respectable 12th-place finish at the end of last season and won their first major trophy, qualifying for their first season in Europe in the process.
However, the head coach is wary that what they have built can quickly crumble if they don’t take the right approach.
“I wouldn’t sit here if the club had been very successful before,” said Glasner. “Two years in a row playing against relegation, even with these two top stars [Eze and Oliseh].
“So if we don’t do the right things now, I’m worried that it can go very quickly into the wrong direction.
“And in the Premier League, when I see what’s happening around us, I am worried even more.”
