Australian won the Europa League during his brief spell in north London but oversaw a disastrous domestic campaign

Nottingham Forest have reportedly explored the possibility of appointing Ange Postecoglou as manager amid doubts over the future of current head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tension has grown between Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis, with the manager admitting this week that their relationship had “changed”.

Nuno made an outburst in the media last week, complaining that he was seriously underequipped to compete in both the league and Europe this season. Marinakis has since sanctioned an outlay of more than £100m but rumours have grown concerning Nuno’s future.

Forest are understood to be monitoring Postecoglou, who is keen to return to management following his dismissal at Tottenham Hotspur in May.

The Australian won the Europa League during his brief spell in north London but oversaw a disastrous domestic campaign, with Spurs finishing 17th in the Premier League, losing 22 games and shipping 65 goals in the process. He has since been replaced by Thomas Frank.

Postecoglou previously rejected an offer from Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia and is thought to favour continuing his career in England, according to reports.

Forest have made no move for the Australian and Nuno remains in charge.
